The midget was found in Springfield Mass and was originally an early flat tail midget with a head blister added later. Its a manufactured stamped steel frame midget with an aluminum body, It is definitely not a homemade chassis & body, It may be a "Belmont manufactured midget from the same area it was found in, but have not been able to prove that yet. The midget has all Model A running gear. A narrowed Model A front I-beam & suspension with 5 lug hubs. And a narrowed Model A banjo rear with single (left side) mechanical brake. The steering is Modified Model A center steering. The car is rolling now but needs to be completed this is a project car. The frame has been media blasted, excess holes filled in, primed & painted white. The front axle & suspension have all been media blasted cleaned primed & painted red. The banjo rear & suspension has been media blasted cleaned primed & painted red. The original aluminum body parts have been sanded & are in 61 grey epoxy primers.
The hood is raw aluminum and needs to be fitted & finished & mounted. The nose was from another midget that was wider. It has been sectioned & welded back together to fit this midget frame & body. The nose needs to finish being straightened & smoothed out. The belly pan is .060 aluminum and is welded & mounted with studs to the underside of the frame, it needs to be prepped & painted. The midget has a V8-60 set up block in the car now with no internals inside it. The block was going to be re-built using the crank & rods from a second complete V8-60. So parts have been bought for the rebuilt like 8 NOS ford v8-60 cylinder sleeves & rod bearings etc. the block is mated to a Cornis In /Out box via a steel mid plate that also acts as a mid-mount for the engine.
The rear is set up to roll but will need to be re-built with new bearings & races in the side bells as well as re-set the R&P (lash)which is original and was surface rusted from no oil in the rear. The R&P has a poor mans spool set up, the carrier was filled with lead to lock the axles together. I left it that way as it was original, it can be changed to a standard Model A ford R&P carrier if one is acquired.
Included in this sale is the midget shown here with 3- 12 halibrand magnesium wheels & one left front skinny made from model T drums. Also comes with a midget radiator core that needs to have the heads made & soldered onto it to fit the hood/nose etc., Eddie Meyer reproduction timing cover,2 modified v8-60 oil pans (stripped for racing),1 v8-60 set up/race block, 1 complete (seized) v8-60 engine, extra v8-60 used engine parts,NOS v8-60 STD rod bearings, NOS v8-60 STD cylinder sleeves (8), new SW oil & water temp gauges, hand pressure pump,5 gal jerry can for a fuel cell (as originally was on the car-needs to be fit to the car),13 midget 4 spoke steering wheel, used v8-60 headers & pipes, reproduction cast aluminum nose grill (needs to be sanded & polished),reproduction halibrand style friction shocks (2),42-48 crab style ford dist. (needs rebuild if used),original v8-60 distributer (needs rebuilding if used), 2 Stromberg 48 carbs with frogs mouth scoops that need rebuilding but were off of a model a banger race motor. The midget has some new parts like the Hair pin radius rods & also comes with the original torsion arm suspension that was on the car originally.
This is a true early midget, it is almost 70+years old & represents a golden age of racing when anyone could build a car & tear up the local dirt track on a Saturday night. This is a great project to finish & a lot of the hard & dirty stuff has been done already. This car had no known history so you can finish it anyway you want, I was going for a white body with red numbers, red flames & red suspension?
If you have any specific questions I will be happy to answer them the best I can. I have a lot of pictures of all the work done so far.
All sales final, the midget is sold As Is and has no implied warranties its used! Buyer is responsible for the pick-up and or transport of the midget & extra parts, I will assist when & were I can to help you out. The Midget is located in southeastern Pennsylvania.
