At age 15 (1965) Donnie Allison became my favorite race car driver. Donnie was driving
# 30. A red super modified owned by the Ardis Brothers in Mobile Alabama. We would go
to Five Flags Speedway every Sunday or Friday Night with every run.Donnie won a lot of
races there and Mobile driving that car. Then one week he was driving a blue # 41 from
Mississippi and he won the feature race. I found out the Ardis brothers had fired him for not winning more races than he did. He out run that # 30 car from then on...HA HA.
I got to seat in the grand stands one time behind Donnie's and Bobby's wife's,they were a
joy to talk to and were so nice..I made Donnie a model car like the super he raced,
The Sunday I give it to him he won the feature. The local paper news put his picture in Monday's paper for winning and he was holding that little model car in his hand and you could see it in the picture. I WAS A HAPPY 15 YEAR OLD BOY showed the paper to all
the boys at school. Three years later I started racing. I won a 142 races in my life but in 1973 I got the thrill of my life.I got to race against Donnie & Bobby Allison,Red Framer,Neil Bonnett,Jody Ridley,Ronnie Sanders,Rusty Wallace,Harry Gant,Pete Hamilton, and I don't
who else..This was in Opp Alabama (Twin City Speedway at that time). Donnie could have
won more in Nascar if he had better cars to drive..I Have not seen Donnie in many years
but he will always be my favorite.......Buddy Griffin..........Cantonment Florida
