I'm not a huge rear engine race car fan, however, some of the Indy cars of the 1970's were pretty interesting looking. Even then you could still see the car builders personal influence, although aero-dynamics were dictating race car construction, a filed of 33 cars (Indy 500) or 24 to 28 cars on smaller ovals, had a wide variety different looking race cars.
