name is lynn Finlayson. currently living in alliance, Nebraska. was into motorcycles when I was a kid growing up in Sheridan, Wyoming, graduating in 64. got out of the army in 69 and bought a new Camaro. drag raced it and towed it with a new 70 ram-air gto. wish I still had them both now... got into dirt track racing with my brother-n-law while living in Hannibal, Missouri, north of st. Louis, mo. wild man Kelley, dick vance, kickey powell, dickey crane, etc, were the hot shoes back then. moved to havre, Montana and the nearest racing was in great falls. I moved to whitefish, Montana and got introduced to asphalt racing. raced in Spokane occasionally, but mostly in kallispell. then moved to billings and got back to dirt track racing on saturday. we drove to Gillette and Sheridan, on sunday, to watch more dirt racing, then back to billings. for a while, when living in havre, we drove to Gillette for the sunday, day race, and back to Sheridan for the night race, then back to havre on monday. no speed limit in Montana, so the gto saw a lot of 120 mph consistant speeds on bias belt tires. only had one blow out, on the left front. never wrecked, but was a wild ride till I got it stopped. very little traffic.

I helped get the old asphalt stock car track, re-opened, here in alliance, but the old crew wanted to take over, so let them. they wanted to see fast and expensive cars, right away. it died because nobody could afford them. scotts bluff and Cheyenne, are the two asphalt tracks, in this area, that are still active.

I have a shaw straight rail dirt late model roller, raced in rapid city, an 86 wide body scca trans-am Camaro, raced in the Denver grand prix, an 88 olds cutlass wide body, with all the 24 hour rolex decals from 1997, a 75 nance sprint car, that was modified to haul a passenger for PPIR, when it first opened, but had suspension problems, so was never actually used. and the list of project cars, goes on, that ill probably never get to....

currently trying to finish my garage, so I can get back to creating. I want to build a copy of a 61 ford club sedan I saw in an old 8mm film of dirt track racing in new York. I still have the videos of the 8mm. they moved the body way back on the chassis, slammed it right on the ground and shortened the trunk area. ive been gathering the parts for a while. went to a nascar auction in owensborrow, ky, on our way to the rolex race in florida. got snowed in, so bought everything in site, till all the money for the rolex trip, was gone, then came home... still wanting to go to a rolex 24 hour race. they are the same weekend, as the swap meet...

I took my 2 seat sprint car to rapid city to have it made street legal, while I worked on my garage, but got ripped off, real bad. only got the roller back, after him having it for over a year, and never doing anything with it, with the help of the sheriff. the deal was made on a hand shake, and I couldn't prove, the car was actually mine, so was real lucky, to just get back, what I did. so, I need to buy all the stuff that was ripped off. hope I can find enough parts at the oval track swap meet next month....

ive got quite a few pictures, of the racing from back then, in a drawer. need to run some of them through the scanner, so others can see them.... lynn Finlayson...
